Trail Information:

Cordova, the nearest town to this trail is a commercial fishing community and home to the world famous Copper River Wild Salmon. It is nestled between the Cooper River Delta and the southeastern end of Prince William Sound and covers approximately 2.3 million acres. Beauty and adventure are the largest part of this magnificent place.
Cordova is also home to river rafting, fishing, hiking, sightseeing, camping, hunting, and exploring.
Cordova is located one hundred and forty miles east of Anchorage and is home to 2,500 year round residents. Access to Cordova and to this trail is by air or water only.

The first 0.3 miles of the Heney Ridge Trail is a wide, flat, crushed aggregate surface offering easy hiking for all ages. It can be used for day hikes or short family hikes.
From there the trail travels through Spruce/Hemlock forests and open muskegs to an alpine environment at 2000 feet elevation offering views of the Gulf of Alaska and Orca Inlet that are spectacular.

The open ridges of this area are far more challenging but will provide the more experienced hiker the opportunity to explore the surrounding peaks.
Take care and use caution with bear and wildlife encounters.

Note: that the beginning mile of the Heney Ridge Trail is an easement through private lands and all land owner rights should be observed. Contact the local Forest Service Office for further details.
