Trail Information

The Abbey’s Way Trail leaves Forest Road 487 and heads to the northeast towards a mountain meadow which was part of an old homestead. The trail then climbs directly up the pine and Douglas fir covered slopes of Aztec Peak towards the lookout tower. It includes some switchbacks near the top. The trail wraps around the peak and meets back up with Forest Road 487 just east of the top of the peak. Return by retracing your tracks on the trail or return via the Forest Road 487

Directions

From Young:
Travel south on State Highway 288 to Forest Road 487. Take FR 487 3.25 miles east. There is parking for several vehicles on the west side of FR 487 across from the trail.
