Trail Information
The higher part of the Boyer Trail runs through a Ponderosa pine forest dispersed with oak, sycamore and other deciduous trees, especially along the waterways. As it drops down in elevation the flora changes to brush and chaparral. The Sierra Ancha Wilderness can be accessed from this trail. Scenery includes views of Salome Canyon and Roosevelt Lake, prehistoric ruins and the Boyer Cabin. The Boyer Trail follows Boyer Creek, steadily climbing through chaparral and semi-desert grassland. It reaches the bluffs and then follows the bluffs above Salome Creek and eventually meets with Hell’s Hole Trail (#284). This may be overgrown and difficult to follow in some places.
Hikers should be prepared for strenuous exercise at higher altitudes. The upper part of the trail is often closed by snow in the winter. Parts of the trail are steep and rocky and may be difficult in places for horses, but can be traversed with caution.
