Trail Information
The Jacob’s Crosscut Trail is a level hike for most of the way but still provides hikers great views of the Superstition Mountains. There are a few lookouts that give great views of Four Peaks and the greater Phoenix area. The trail is named after Jacob Waltz who is the legendary Lost Dutchman. The Jacob’s Crosscut Trail head south all the way to Broadway Trailhead in Apache Junction. The Jacob’s Crosscut Trail connects with several other trails in the park and can be combined with other trails to from a variety of loops.
There is a fee to enter the Lost Dutchman State Park.

From Apache Junction:
Go north on Arizona 88 to the Lost Dutchman State Park.

New Born Baby Burro

These burros are direct decendants from the Gold Miners that brought them to the area as pack animals. Then the coming of World War Two when the gold mines surrounding Oatman and Gold Roads, Arizona were shut down and the burros were set free to roam the hills. They have become wild and live and breed in the area, some seeking handouts from tourists)
