Trail Information

The Desert Queen Mine Trail in Death Valley National Park starts at the Pine City backcountry registry. The trail leads a half mile to the ruins, tailings and shafts of the abandoned Desert Queen gold mine. This mine was operated on and off from 1895 to 1961. The trail forks with the left fork leading to an overlook of the mine property and the right fork head to the actual mine site.

The area surrounding the mine is a great place to explore. Spending a little time here can lead a few other interesting places. The shafts of the mine are closed by fencing for the protection of visitors. They are for your protection so don’t try to access the shafts.

Directions

From Oasis Visitor Center:
Follow Utah Trail south to a fork in the road. Bear right toward Jumbo Rocks Campground. Go past the campground two miles to Geology Tour Road. Turn right and drive 1.4 miles to the Pine City backcountry registry. The Desert Queen Mine Trail leads east from the trailhead.
