Trail Information

The Chief Mountain Trail passes through a spruce and fir forest at the beginning of your journey. But the trail soon reaches the treeline after a short distance into the hike. Here, the alpine tundra begins. The last stretch of the trail offers an overlook of the Bear Creek Basin, including Mount Evans, Mount Goliath, Rogers Peak and Roslin Peak.

The Chief Mountain Trail is also a popular snowshoeing and backcountry skiing trail when winter comes.

Directions

On Highway 103, pull over around mile marker 18. The trailhead is on the south side of the road. There is no trailhead markings.
