Trail Information

The Pu’u Loa Petroglyphs Trail travel along the coast and traverses older lava flows to one of Hawaii’s most extensive petroglyph fields. Sights of interest along this trail are petroglyphs and pahoehoe lava.

Petroglyphs are fragile. Stay on the boardwalk walking on the lava surface will fragment petroglyphs and destroy them. You should bring water, wear sunglasses and a hat.

From the Kilauea Visitor Center
The trail begins at the Pu’u Loa parking area (milepost 16) on the Chain of Craters Road approximately 8 miles from the vistor center.
