Trail Information
The Tanner Butte Trail is a long, round-trip day hike or an easier two-day round-trip backpack located in the Columbia Wilderness. This trail isn’t heavily traveled and provides solitude. From the top of Tanner Butte you can see the five tallest mountain in the area; Oregon’s Hood and Jefferson, and Washingtons Saint Helens, Adams, and Rainier.
The Tanner Butte Trail starts off in stands of Douglas, noble and silver firswitchbacks uphill for 2.2 miles to the junction with Wauna Point Trail (#402).
Continue along the Tanner Butte Trail and head into Hatfield Wilderness for another 2.1 miles to the Dublin Lake turn-off. Tanner Butte is 4.5 miles further south on Trail #401 and provides a panoramic view of the Cascade Mountain Range and the local Larch, Chinidere and Indian Mountains.
The Tanner Butte Trail can be combined with other trails to make a loop trek. Begin by doubling back to Dublin Lake and head west on Trail #448 for 3.5 miles. This trail connects with Trail #431 and Forest Road 777 and hike north for about 2.5 miles back to the parking lot.
Directions
