Trail Information
Murphy Point is the name given to a mile-long promontory of land that extends westward from the southern end of the Island in the Sky Mesa. Since the road was closed Murphy Point now receives far fewer visitors that any of the other named viewpoints on the mesa, but there are few better places in the park to watch the sunset. Take a flashlight with you for the walk back. Alternatively, you may want to obtain a backcountry permit at the visitor center and spend a night on the point.
The Murphy Point Trail is a short, easy trail heading on a level trek to Murphy Point with expansive views to the west, north and south. The most prominent feature in the canyon below is the Murphy Hogback.
Directions
From Island in the Sky Visitor Center:
Travel south along Utah 313 for for about 7.25 miles to the junction of Upheaval Dome and Grand View Roads. Bear left at this junction and drive 2 miles to Murphy Road. Turn right to the Murphy Trailhead.
