Trail Information

The White Rim Overlook ranks among the top two or three viewpoints in Canyonlands National Park. The overlook point lies on the eastern end of a long, slender finger of land that extends outward for nearly a mile from the southern end of the Island in the Sky. The White Rim Overlook presents a great vantage point for watching the morning’s first rays of light make their way into the deep recesses of the vast desert below the rim.

The White Rim Overlook Trail is a short two-mile round trip trail heading east from Grand View Point Picnic Area to the White Rim Overlook. The trail follows a relatively level grade along an arm of the mesa extending between Gooseberry Canyon and Monument Basin. About half way along you will begin to notice the plateau becoming increasingly narrower and ultimately the trail ends simply because there is no more room on the point for it. The overlook provides excellent views of the White Rim Road as it heads north and west.

Directions

From Island in the Sky Visitor Center:
Drive for about 7.25 miles south on the Main Island Road. At the junction of Upheaval Dome/Grand View Roads bear left toward Grand View Point. Continue traveling five miles, past the Buck Canyon Overlook, to the Gooseberry Trailhead.
