Bicycling has long been part of the plans of the Pocahontas State Park’s outdoor recreation .

Stil tlhe Old Mill Bicycle Trail, as nice as it is, wasn’t quite enough for the growing numbers of members of thef Central Virginia folks who enjoy good, challenging mountain biking and a better place to test their growing skills.

Dan Soper, the park’s chief ranger, stepped in and, in cooperation with the Mountain Bike Virginia bike club, developed the park’s latest singletrack addition, geared solely to the needs of singletrack hungry cyclists.

Mountain bikers love it.

In addition to Pocahontas’ singletrack loops and the bike trail around Beaver Lake, there are more than 10 miles of old, grassy forest roads open to bikes.

The Old Mill Bicycle Trail’s terrain is rolling and many of the trails are wide and inviting, allowing cyclists of all abilities to enjoy the wooded environment of this state park.
