Trail Information
The Shuksun Lake Trail is unmarked and is not maintained on a regular basis. It is a very steep, arduous route that gains 1700 feet the first mile, at times reaching grades of 60%. Fishermen heading to Shuksan Lake (el. 3694 feet) are the most frequent users of the trail.
The trail begins in an old clear-cut and climbs steeply for one mile to a narrow ridge. At 4,600 feet, the trail tops the ridge and offers views of Mt. Shuksan’s Sulphide Glacier and Crystal Glacier. The trail then drops down to Little Shuksan Lake where sites are available for camping.
Continue on the fisherman’s trail for a difficult scramble 900 feet down to 28-acre Shuksan Lake. Fishing in Shuksan Lake requires a Washington State fishing license. Treat all drinking water. Bugs are plentiful in summer and snow usually stays on the trail until July or August
