Fall Fishing in Pennsylvania

Fall is one of my favorite times to go fishing.
The fish are a lot easier to find, and they are just about everywhere.. Murky water, clear water, and strewn about in every depth you can imagine.

The cooler days and chilly  nights have removed most of the nasties like swarms of mosquitos and the little swirls of gnats that drive you mad, and the ski bums are mostly gone, unless you get the odd die hard.

Add to that the immense fall foliage and you just can’t beat a day at the lake or the creek in the autumn.

One of my favorite places to go is Sugar Lake in northwestern Pennsylvania. Close by to a tiny little burg whose claim to fame was their ball bat factory ages ago, if you get the chance to go scope this place out, by all means, do it.

The lake, mostly murky and full of water grasses in the summer time by October is a clear green, the water has dropped a bit and the surrounding mixed hardwood forests are awash with brilliant shades of red, yellow and orange.

Whats even nicer is the way the bass and bluegill bit. Its not at all uncommon to drop in your line and have them literally jumping onto it so fast you can’t drop a line before you’ve got another bite.

As the sun starts to climb you can fish a worm and catch just about¬† as many bluegill or perch as you are permitted to, and later on in the afternoon, follow the shoreline around, and near piles of brush, old docks and overhung bits of the shore, you’re going to find the bass are biting.

Not very big, and not very well known, Sugar Lake is one of THE places to be in Northwestern Pennsylvania for fall fishing.

The North Face Beeline 30 Degree Sleeping Bag

Going light and fast requires equipment that is ultra lightweight, but doesn’t skimp on durability. When The North Face designed the Beeline 30 Degree Sleeping Bag, they kept these criteria in mind. Incredibly lightweight and amply insulated with 850+ Eastern European goose down, the Beeline is build of revolutionary HelioLite HD Ripstop fabric that’s lighter, stronger, and more compressible than any other material on the market today. Move fast during the day and sleep well at night, so you can get up and do it all over again tomorrow.
