Trail Information

The Check Dam Trail (#190) is named for the large amount of Civilian Conservation Corps vintage erosion control dams in the area. The trail offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and Upper Pinal Creek. Mountain brush dominates the landscape and provides a diverse habitat for the wildlife in the area.

From the east end of the Icehouse parking area, begin by following the Six Shooter Canyon Trail (#197) east for about 0.25 miles past a gravel pit to the junction of the Check Dam Trail (#190). Turn north at this junction and follow the trail sloping from west to east until it drops into the creek above Parker Pond. The trail climbs out the other side and follows a south facing slope, ending at the junction of the Pioneer Pass Tollroad Trail (#200).
