Trail Information

The McFadden Horse Trail provides access to the Sierra Ancha Wilderness with good views of Cherry Creek Drainage, Fort Apache Indian Reservation and the Mogollon Rim. The trail climbs McFadden Horse Mountain. The trail dead ends overlooking Elephant Rock. There are campsites at Cienega Springs Trailhead and on top of McFadden Horse Mountain. The trail runs along a steep cliff overlooking Cherry Creek.

Directions

From Young:
Drive State Highway 288 to Reynolds Creek and turn onto Forest Road 410. Drive 2.5 miles to the junction of Forest Road 235. Turn left and travel 0.5 miles to the trailhead at Cienga Spring. Take the Cienga Trail to its junction with McFadden Horse Trail (#146).
